When I was a little girl, I looked up to one man more than any other in my life. A man who was strong, opinionated, funny, handsome, caring, patient (most of the time at least), and a model of what I would call a perfect dad; my grandfather. There are constant reminders of him everywhere I go. I caught myself staring into the eyes of an elderly gentleman this weekend as he walked by me in the grocery store. I had to look twice as I swear he was my grandfather. That same day I met the grandmother of a friend of mine and it was like staring into my grandmothers eyes. Two wonderful people who had such a positive impact on my life.
Today marks the second anniversary of my grandfathers death. I still remember that day vividly and how devastated I was that I would never see this wonderful man again nor would he have a personal relationship with my brand new son who was just 5 days old. But how relieved I felt that he no longer had to suffer and that he was finally at peace and made whole again. So today, grandpa, I celebrate you. Thank you for being such a blessing in my life and best "father" any child could ask for. You are the light in my eyes and the confidence in my step. I carry you with me everywhere I go. I love you and miss you.
