Don't Say it.....
I know I'm a bit behind. Here it is the 24th of the month, and I feel like I haven't posted anything for ions. There's so much going on in the Riggio house and the next three weeks will bring change in many ways. Stay tuned for more details.

What Day Off?
On Wednesday nights I get all amped up since Thursday is my day off. I meticulously plan out my day since it's generally filled with errands, but there is always time to play a little.....that is, except for yesterday. I don't think I sat down to relax until after 9:30 last night.
The day started with a early morning Dr visit for Matthew and Dominic. I knew it would be a long visit since it involved a 4 yr well check for Dominic and immunizations for both. I had no clue it would take nearly 2 hours! Dominic weighed in at a whopping 41 pounds and 42 inches tall - definitely true to form since he is tall and scrawny (but is packed with a punch either way, that's for sure). Little man came in at 28.5 pounds and 34 inches. Maybe it's a mom thing, but I always look forward to the "official weigh in" at the doctor's office. Maybe that's because I have always meticulously recorded this info in all three baby books. Matthew had a quick check of his vitals, to which he responded "ouch." This little man thinks everything hurts. Dominic's exam was much more advanced. He had his sight and hearing checked and was ushered into the bathroom to pee in a cup....his favorite part. I don't know what it is about little boys but they love this part! They both tolerated the finger stick and we later learned that neither were anemic. Now it was on to the immunizations. Oh my goodness....I used to say that Dommy was my brave man but after seeing Matthew's reaction to the three shots, he freaked out. Thank goodness he is small because I had to hold him tight. He was so upset at me that right after the shots he kicked me. I felt awful! The good thing for mom is that the Pediatrician's office had both the flu and H1N1 vaccinations in stock so I was able to have both little guys loaded up with protection for the rest of cold and flu season.
I quickily ushered the boys to daycare so that I could make it to Joshua's classroom to volunteer. I was about 15 minutes late, but Mrs Shutt had plenty of work assigned out to me to which I completed in record time. Jim and I met at noon for our weekly sushi date and were joined by a few friends. Pete, the owner of the restaurant, had our table all set up for us and quickly ordered up by "usual," a shrimp tempura roll inside cucumber instead of rice. Soooo yummy! (and fewer calories) From there I visited Jiffy Lube for a long overdue oil change on the Tahoe and then it was on to WalMart and Albertsons to complete my shopping for the week. By the time I arrived home it was nearly 3pm so I unloaded the car and headed to the daycare to pick up the little guys for a haircut. Tim had a wait so after sitting for over an hour it was finally our turn. Matthew was first and he was not very happy about having his hair cut so he had to sit on my lap. By the time we were finished I was covered in hair and all itchy....oh how I hate hair cut day for that reason. Dominic chose a very short haircut and it suits him very well. Whew....haircut day over thank goodness.
We arrived home just after 5pm and I quickly scarfed down a bowl of cereal and changed into my gym attire. I had to make a stop at the nail salon first for a new set and was joined by my friend and babysitter Cynthia half way through, which was nice as it made the time fly by. We headed to the gym immediately afterward. I finally got home at 9:15pm, hopped in the shower, and climbed into bed. Where the heck did my day off go? I think I worked more than I do on a normal day. TGIF! Although today is packed with an agenda as well. Bring on Sunday when I think I can relax.

.....and my new Dooney and Bourke purse purchased at the bargain price of $69 on eBay. I LOVE it!

Happy New Year!
Alas, it is a brand new year! A new decade is in front of us and I'm hopeful that it is filled with good things for all. With young boys in our house, the New Years celebration is not big for us. Jim and I did make it until midnight to ring in the new year with a kiss, but as for the rest of our "party", they were sacked out in their beds.
New Years day was an active one for us. We started off the morning boxing up all our Christmas decorations (except for the outside ones....those will have to wait).....thank goodness that is done. I love decorating our house for the holidays but it is certainly alot of work on the back end. It's done and our house is back to normal, which I might add looks a little plain and boring after removing all the colorful accessories. I squeezed in a long workout at the gym with my friend Stephanie. Hopefully she is not sore this morning but I suspect she will be - sorry Steph! Next up was Prime Rib...yummy! We were joined by our friends Phillip and Kim who were gracious enough to provide the Prime Rib and a homemade New York Cheesecake. So much for the workout!! I had a little too much to drink and crashed after playing my new Wii Fit game.
Today we are off to Bakersfield for a day of work and the little boys will play at Nana's house. They are so excited. And in case you haven't seen my new "do" for the new year, it's below. It's a bit shorter than I normally would go but I absolutely love it and it feels so good! By the way, in case you are wondering, Jim absolutely HATES it!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!
Today is a very special day in our family. I imagine many people who celebrate their birthdays right around the holiday get "jipped." But not my hubby! Happy birthday to the most wonderful husband and daddy any family could ask for. We love you so much and hope that today is a memorable one for you. Thanks for all you do!

Merry Christmas
Our home arose earlier than normal this morning to see what the fat man had brought. I heard two little voices (let's just say they really weren't that little) coming from the family room declaring that they were rather pleased with their Christmas surprises. Joshua found a Wii game that he had been wanting for quite some time, and Dominic received a boy baby doll.....Santa also left a G I Joe doll just in case. Said voices became louder as they ventured down the hall in an attempt to awaken mommy and Matthew. Neither of us were having that. 30 minutes later the two of us emerged to continue the festivities. Let's just say that Santa was really good to us this year!
As I sit here and look at my three sons playing with their new toys, it brings back so many memories of when I was their age. Although I have forged on and am creating new traditions with my young family, I would be remiss if the memories of Christmas past were not included somewhere in here. I can still remember Christmas Eve at my grandparents house; a big meal, "stocking stuffers," piles of presents with each family members names on them, camera flashes, and the ever popular declaration from my grandfather that "Christmas is over, let's turn off the lights." This most wonderful man was never much into the Christmas thing, but he was certainly into the family time and watching the love and joy that was spread around the Burke living room on this very special night. And then there was grandma all decked out in her Christmas best which included some sort of Christmassy shirt. I can still see her standing in the kitchen window as she worked on the feast and then watching with stars in her eyes as all of us opened our gifts. How happy I am that my grandparents spent their last Christmas together with their first Great-Grandson. I know Joshua doesn't remember that day but I certainly do. I thank God every day that we all have those memories. Oh how they both were looking forward to many more holidays with their brood of great grandchildren. Unfortunately that was not to be.
Today, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, I am thankful for all the blessings in my life and for the two angels that watch over me every day that I am on this earth. How lucky I was to have such great grandparents and how blessed they both are today as they celebrate their first Christmas together in heaven. I love you grandma and grandpa and thank you for sharing in my Christmas memories.
