Saturday is almost a blur at this point; a day that I want to put past us and never go back to. I was scheduled to work in Bakersfield on Saturday and since we were invited to a graduation party for my best friends nephew, I thought it would be nice for the entire family to come along. We loaded up the kids on Friday afternoon and headed out. The boys were excited to see Nana while I stayed at work until 8:45pm preparing for today's Operational Review.
Saturday morning I awoke early to prepare for my day. When Matthew woke up we found that he had a bit of a fever so we loaded him up with Ibuprofen which did the trick. While I worked, my mom, Jim and the boys hit the local Home Show for some fun and excitement. Everyone had enjoyed themselves. Upon returning to my mom's house, the boys slipped into their swim trunks and played in the wading pool. Apparently Matty wasn't feeling well again and climbed into my mom's chair for a nap.
At about 3:20 my mom called me while I was working and told me I needed to get home. Matthew had had a seizure and they had called 911. My heart sank...I dropped everything and ran out the door. When I arrived at my mom's house, Matty was in the bathtub with Jim and four firemen crowded around him. He looked so tired and out of it. As a mom, I was very concerned, but I kept my composure and listened to what the firemen had to say. I suspected that he most likely had a fever again, which had spiked and subsequently caused the episode. Either way, the firemen suggested taking him to the hospital and having him checked out. The paramedics had just arrived in the ambulance, so Jim insisted that we allow them to transport him just in case something happened on the way. I was okay with that and allowed Jim to ride along. Did you know that when an infant rides in an ambulance they are required to sit in a car seat? I stayed behind to find out what had happened from my mom, consoled Dominic who by now was a complete sobbing mess, and assured both of the boys that Matty would be okay.
I arrived at the hospital shortly after the ambulance and was escorted to Matthew's room, where he was hysterical and screaming. He still had a 102 degree fever (my mom gave him motrin about 20 mins before the episode) so they administered Tylenol to him. It took FOREVER for the doc to come in. He was finally able to assure us that Matthew had had a Febrile seizure as a result of his fever spiking, but that he was completely fine and shouldn't have another one. He checked him out and said that he clearly had "something going on" (no kidding?) since he had a red throat and ear. Nurse Liz injected him with an antibiotic mixed with Lidocane and we were discharged with a prescription of more antibiotic.
Because the older boys had looked forward to the graduation party, I decided to go ahead and take them while Jim stayed back with Matthew. We enjoyed visiting with friends and were able to stay for several hours. The boys and I returned to my mom's at 10pm and hit the sack.
We arrived back to our house Sunday morning at 10:30am and jumped on cleaning the house and finishing off the laundry. Dominic and I visited Target to fill Matthew's prescription where he picked up Diego glasses and a Diego watch. We also stopped by Famous Footwear to see if they had any Lightning McQueen shoes left (Since Dominic is addicted to them), and did find a pair of size 12 for next year. Dominic also picked a new pair of Converse shoes. After a final stop at the grocery store we were home. The Mazur's joined us for dinner, which is always a treat, and we talked about their upcoming move to Florida. We are surely going to miss them!
Here's to a less hectic day and a little guy that is feeling much better!

Yes, definitely a day we don't want to repeat! Although we were pretty certain it was a febrile seizure (and that's what I told the 911 dispatcher), nevertheless it was a very frightening experience all around. And it made me realize just how "small" my house really is, with 4 burly firemen in their turnouts, 2 paramedics, and a seemingly huge gurney parked in my living room! We are all so thankful and blessed that Matty is ok and things turned out well.
What a scare!! I'm so glad he's ok!
I am glad that Matty is ok. Love the pictures of him in the waiting room.

Ok - that made my heart sink!! As a mom with a kid who's been taken in the ambulance before, I can relate. It is the scariest thing in the orld. My heart goes out to you & I'm SOOOO glad he's ok!!
I'm glad I learned about it after the fact. So glad that he is doing better. Thanks heavens for an attentive grandma and daddy. Love you all!
